The Reading Teacher 316 license is part of our Excellence in Teaching Program. This 18-month, DPI-approved licensure program consists of coursework, clinical experience, and a capstone portfolio.
The coursework is grounded in the science behind how children learn to read. The research-informed content and practices embedded within the program will expand the teachers' knowledge-base and further prepare them to meet a wide range of literacy needs.
Our 10-week clinical experience is designed to allow students to apply the learning while being provided coaching and feedback from our ETP advisors and course instructors.
Finally, the capstone portfolio provides evidence of proficiency in the content and application of the content.
The curriculum for the Reading Teacher 316 licensure program was developed using Wisconsin's Guiding Principles for Teaching and Learning, WI ELA Standards, ELA Instructional Practice Guides, current reading research informed by ILA Content Guidelines for Reading Specialists/Reading Teachers, IDA Knowledge and Practice standards for teachers of reading & spelling and the Wisconsin model for representing the reading process, and is aligned to Wisconsin Content Guidelines for Reading Teacher (316) Licensure Programs.
